How to Teach Speaking Skills Through Google Hangouts?

Hello everyone.. Welcome back to my blog..
In this session, I will explain about how to teach speaking skills via Goggle Hangouts.

Google Hangouts is a communication platform developed by Google which includes messaging, video chat, and VOIP features.
Speaking is the action of conveying information or expressing one's thoughts and feelings in spoken language.

So, how to apply Google Hangouts in speaking?
First, the teacher should inquire the students to download or open Google Hangouts via website https://hangouts.google.com
Then, give the students a topic to be discussed. After that, the teacher should inquire the students to prepare what they will be discussed in video conferencing.
And then, ask the students to video call their friends via Google Hangouts and do not forget to ask your students to record their video call activity. This lesson plan can be used in online classroom. So, if you, as the teacher cannot come to the class you can use this lesson plan to substitute the offline classroom. And the video recorder can be the assessment.

This is the screenshot of my video conferencing using Google Hangouts

Session 4: Timeline

How to Teach English Through Tiki-toki?

Hello everyone.. How's your day? Welcome back to my blog..
In the previous session, I have shared about how to teach English through video Animaker. And now, I am gonna share how to teach English using another application. It is called "Tiki Toki". Have you ever heard Tiki Toki? Or have you ever used it?

Well, tiki toki (https://www.tiki-toki.com) is online maker software for creating beautiful interactive timelines that you can share on the web. It is not too complicated application, but if you find some difficulties, you can use another similar applications, such as timetoast (https://www.timetoast.com/) and timeglider (https://timeglider.com/).

This is the screen of Tiki Toki

Tiki toki is very useful for teaching and learning, escpecially for the material that talk about history or list of events. Tiki toki might be the easiest thing to grab the student understanding fast.

Why tiki toki is one of a good idea for teaching historical material or list of events? As we know that both history or events have a long period, from the past till now. It means that, we need to spend a lot of time to read, and it will make the students bored, right? By that condition, we can use tiki toki to make a timeline of history or list of events. The students will get the real information with or without a long reading activity. It is actually very good for teacher that have limit time to teach.

I will give you an example of timeline about the CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) and its development's history that has been made by me and my group.

This is the screenshot of the timeline

For further information, you can check the link of our timeline here History of CALL and its development

That's all the information about timelime, I hope you can get many information that have a lots of beneficial for you, see you and have a nice your world!!

Session 3: Animaker Video

How to Teach English Through Animaker Video?

Hallo everyone.. Welcome to the new post!!
In this session I will talk about "How to teach English through video?". But before that, I will explain about education in the past.

So, how technology in education was??
For the first time, in the 30.000 BCE, the education was using cave drawings to explain what they gonna told. Then, in 510 BCE the teaching and learning through phytagoras academy. After that, in 1600 there is public eduation. In 1910, the audiovisual age for teaching and learning. And then the computer age such as television in 1960. And the interactive age in 2000.

Technology is developing gradually till now, as we know that technology in education growing fast. Especially in education, technology transform to be the interesting thing, and being a beneficial for both teachers and students.

Students will use engaging technologies in collaborative, inquiry-based learning environment with teachers who are willing and able to use technology's power to assist the students in transforming knowledge and skills into products, solutions, and informations.

And for the teachers, using technology can help them to create a new way to deliver the materials. There are many medias or applications that can support teaching and learning such as audio, video, picture, etc.

In this post, I will share my experience in teaching through video. Why I choose video as the media? Video have some great components, those are pictures, audio, sountrack (if any), and the movement of the pictures. So, it makes the student interest and also it improves the student's anthusiasm to learn the new material, and it makes the students enjoy the class.

Some application that can help us to make the teaching video is Animaker (https://www.animaker.com).

It is not too complicated to operate because this application already have the tools such as the theme, backgorund, character, etc.
This is the example of the Animaker tools.

But if you find some difficulties when operate this application, you can search the tutorial from YouTube.

Well, I have made my own video for teaching and learning, the content is about recount text. I explain the definition, language features, generic structures, etc. In the end of the video, I add some example of recount text and give some tasks for the students.

In my opinion, teaching English using video especially Animaker is very beneficial for both teachers and students. For the teachers, they can save the time because they do not need to write the material in the whiteboard. And for the students, video is good for grab students' attention because video is consist of audio and visual.

Well, this is the screenshot of the video that have been made by me and my group.

You can check the link of the video that I have uploaded in youtube: https://youtu.be/YnEeKmM82EM

Do you think that usingusing video as the media of teaching and learning is beneficial??

I hope you can get inspiration from my post, and see you on the next post, guys..

Session 2: Do We Need Netiquette??

Hello guys.. Welcome back to my blog.. Happy reading, guys..

In this part, I'm gonna talk about the importance of netiquette. So, why we do netiqutte? As I explain in the previous post about Netiquette that netiquette is a guidance for us when we're using online communication. And now let me ask you, what is the answer of that question? The answer is "yes, we do", are you with me?

Why we do netiquette? Because netiquette is the basic rules to avoid damaging both online and offline relationships. It is very important because online communication is typically non-verbal. It means that very easy to misinterpret what somebody else is saying.

In addition, netiquette is very useful for in cross-cultural or professional communication, to adhere to a unusually understood code of comunication and etiquette. Without netiquette, jokes and sarcasm without the normal usual visual expression may be interpreted as criticism. So, we have to respect with other opinions or works.

However, it is easy to lose your sense of what is going on around you when you are using technology, but engaging directly with others is more importance than ever. Don't forget to the positive impact that you can make by putting down your phone and having a real, face to face conversation.

This session have done, hope it is beneficial for you guys. Thank you, and see you on the next post.

Hallo everyone.. In the first session, I will talk about learning strategies and Netiquette. Why I'm gonna talk about this? Because teaching and learning using technology is very different with web browsing, so we need the strategies and Netiquette to keep ourselves from cybercrime and exactly to make our online learning successful and effectively.

Strategies for online learning

a. Be realistic
b. Take responsibility for your own learning
c. Organise your time
d. Check your technology
e. Stay connected
f. Consider the rule of the netiquette.

For further information you can visit this link https://masononline.gmu.edu/success/

Netiquette

Talking about netiquette, it is a internet etiquette. Netiquette can be a guidance when using online learning. So there are some core rules of netiquette:

1. Remember the human

When you are holding a conversation online, it is easy to misunderstand your partner's meaning, and it is frighteningly easy to forget that your partner is a person with feelings more or less like your own.

2. Adhere to the same standards of behaviour online that follow in real life

People sometimes forget that there is a human being on the other side of the computer, some people think that a lower standard of ethics or personal behaviour is acceptable in cyberspace. Standard of behaviour may be different in some areas of cyberspace, but they are not lower than in real life.

3. Know where you are in cyberspace

Netiquette is different in different places, it is important to know where you are.

4. Share expert knowledge

The reason asking questionnaire works is that a lot of knowledgeable people are reading the questions. Few of them offer intelligent answers, the sum total of world knowledge increases. The introvert itself was founded and grew because scientist wanted to share information.

5. Respect other people's privacy

Failing to respect other people's privacy is not just bad netiquette. It is also harmful.

Futher explanation, you can check this link http://www.albion.com/netiquette/corerules.html

What makes online learning successful?

1. Persistence
2. Effective time-management skill
3. Effective and appropriate communication skills
4. Basic technical skills
5. Reading and writing skills
6. Motivation and independence
7. A good study environment.
